Here’s what to know about returning your ballot for the primary election in Centre County

Deadlines are quickly approaching to return ballots for the primary election.

Mail ballots must be received by the Centre County Elections Office by 8 p.m. May 16. Ballots can be mailed to the Elections Office and require postage. Ballots can also be brought to the elections entrance at the Willowbank Building in Bellefonte. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and until 8 p.m. May 16.

Ballots can also be returned at one of the drop boxes around the county, though voters should note an earlier deadline. Drop boxes will close at 9 a.m. Monday. Postage is not required for these ballots.

Drop boxes are open around the clock at these locations:

  • Centre Hall district judge office, 2795 Earlystown Road
  • Ferguson Township Municipal Building, 3147 Research Drive
  • HUB-Robeson Center on Penn State’s campus
  • Patton Township Municipal Building, 100 Patton Plaza
  • Philipsburg district judge office, 118 Enterprise Drive
  • Spring Township Municipal Building, 1309 Blanchard St.
  • State College Municipal Building, 243 S. Allen St.
  • Willowbank Building, 420 Holmes St.

After you fill out your ballot, seal it in the smaller envelope labeled “Official Election Ballot.” Then place that envelope into the larger return envelope and seal it shut. Don’t forget to sign and date the declaration on the return envelope.

If you haven’t applied for a mail ballot yet, time is running out. Ballot applications are due to the county Elections Office by 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 9. Apply online or in person at the Willowbank Building.

Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 16 for those who wish to vote in person. Democratic and Republican voters will choose their parties’ candidates for school board, council/supervisor and state court races.
