We Rebuild

Another Centre County pool is set to reopen this week. Here’s what to know before going

After COVID-19 and water issues delayed its summer season, the Mountain Top Pool in Snow Shoe is set to open Thursday.

The pool announced the facility will be open to the public in a Facebook post on Wednesday. Though no health regulations were listed, an earlier post states that the facility will implement social distancing guidelines and check individuals’ temperature before entrance to mitigate the spread of germs.

Jenn Nastase, Mountain Top Area Pool Association president, did not immediately return requests for comment.

Due to school closures and the pandemic, the Mountain Top Pool bus program will not operate this summer, according to a social media post.

Other area pools that have already opened for the summer are Science Park in Ferguson Township, Kepler in Bellefonte and Clear-Centre in Osceola Mills. Welch and Park Forest pools, both overseen by the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Authority, will reopen Saturday.

CRPR issued on Wednesday a series of additional guidelines for patrons to follow:

  • Pool capacities will be limited to 50%
  • No camps, private groups, or rentals will be permitted
  • Patrons are expected to maintain the CDC recommended 6-feet distance between them and non-household members both in and out of the pools
  • Lap lanes are limited to two patrons at a time, starting on opposite ends of the lane
  • No patio furniture or lounge chairs will be available for patron use. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
  • The diving boards, water slides, and wibit will not be available for use.
  • Water fountains are closed; please bring water or purchase from the front desk
  • The only available concessions will be bottled water. Patrons may bring their own food and drinks: no glass, no alcohol.
  • Additional sanitation and cleaning will be completed by staff every two hours while the pools are open
  • Masks will be required at check-in and when interacting with pool staff
  • Patrons are encouraged to call the pools’ front desks, particularly on hot days, before arriving to check the capacity. Contact Welch at 237-3964, and Park Forest at 238-4515.
