In an effort to provide support for locally owned and operated businesses, Centre County government is poised to release additional relief funds.

The application to receive funding from the Centre County COVID-19 County Relief Block grant program launched Friday morning. The board of commissioners was awarded $14,664,804 in June to help address challenges created by the pandemic, statewide shutdown and mitigation efforts.

“This is not a first-come, first-served application process,” Mary Kay Williams, grant administrator, said Thursday. “This is a thorough process.”

Applicants must be appropriately licensed, headquartered and operating from a physical location in the county. They also must have experienced a decline in revenue resulting from COVID-19. To be eligible, businesses must be for-profit, employ fewer than 100 employees and must not be delinquent in federal or state taxes.

Businesses in the tourism industry are permitted to have more than 100 workers and apply.

To complete the application, businesses must provide their gross monthly income for March-July 2019 and March-July 2020, among several other documents found on the county’s website.

Applications for small business loans must be submitted by 5 p.m. Sept. 11. For assistance with the loan application, contact the Penn State Small Business Development Center at sbdc@psu.edu or by calling 863-4293.

A separate application is being developed for local nonprofits and is expected to launch in September, Williams said.
