Once again State Patty’s Day has come and gone, and once again, thanks to a small number of students, State College has paid the price for their drinking.
Penn State might not want to admit it, but it has a drinking problem. So what should we do?
There are no painless options. But my suggestions include severely penalizing students appearing out in public intoxicated (up to and including expulsion from Penn State) and banning all alcohol sales in the State College area for the 48 hours before State Patty’s Day (which, I understand, would hurt businesses).
This is a problem that is only going to get worse in the years to come and will continue to tarnish the reputation of Penn State. Penn State brings the good and the bad to the area and right now the negatives are getting the most publicity.
