Rep. Stephanie Borowicz will run again for Pa.’s 76th Legislative District, and she has a challenger

State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz, R-McElhattan, announced she will seek a second term for the 76th Legislative District of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives.

On Tuesday, Borowicz launched her candidacy to represent the 76th Legislative District, which includes Clinton County and parts of Centre County. She is the first woman to serve and represent the 76th District and lives in McElhattan. A mother, former teacher and pastor’s wife, Borowicz was first elected in 2018.

“My priorities are priorities of freedom, freedom to raise a family without government intrusion; freedom to work your farms and businesses without burdensome regulations; freedom from the weight of government debt; freedom for those who have no voice and freedom to keep your hardworking money in your own pockets,” she said in a release.

In her first term, Borowicz helped introduce anti-abortion legislation that proposes a ban on abortions when a fetal heartbeat is detected. A proponent of the Second Amendment, Borowicz has hosted gun rights workshops that aim to teach residents where firearms are permitted and how they must b transported. She also secured funding for the Mountaintop Regional Water Authority to help improve water quality in the area.

Joe Waltz will be seeking the Democratic nomination in the primary election for the 76th District seat.

Waltz, a Lycoming County native, worked for 34 years as an educator. He retired from the Keystone Central School District in 2007. If elected, Waltz said he will stand up for farmers, firefighters and senior citizens on fixed incomes. He plans to support legislation that aims to create family-sustaining jobs and stimulate the local economy.

“I truly believe that all of us in the 76th District have a whole lot more in common than we do differences,” Waltz said in a statement. “I want to tell Harrisburg your story, and I want to fight to make some of our common concerns less concerning, some of our shared hopes a reality.”
