One lucky lottery player is set to become a millionaire after striking gold with a scratch-off ticket, the Pennsylvania Lottery said.

A Luzerne County retailer recently sold a $3 million-winning ticket, the state lottery said in a press release Thursday. The prize came through the Pennsylvania Lottery’s $3 Million Mega Stacks scratch-off game.

Can Do Convenience, located at 419 S. Poplar St. in Hazleton, earned a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Scratch-off tickets are distributed at random. The Pennsylvania Lottery and its retailers do not know where winning tickets will be sold. Additionally, the state lottery does not learn where a winning ticket was sold until a prize is claimed.

Scratch-off prizes expire one year from their respective game’s end-sale date posted online at palottery.com. Winners are encouraged to sign the back of their tickets and call the Pennsylvania Lottery at 1-800-692-7481.

$3 Million Mega Stacks is a $30 scratch-off game that offers up to five top prizes of $3 million, the Pennsylvania Lottery says. Players can receive prizes starting at $30 if any scratched-off numbers match a winning number. Multipliers can greatly increase potential winnings, and a few scratch-off symbols can result in instant-win prizes.

Overall, the chances of winning any prize on a $3 Million Mega Stacks ticket are roughly 1 in 2.98. However, the odds of securing a $3 million prize are about 1 in 1.44 million, the Pennsylvania Lottery says.

Players in Pennsylvania can take several steps to limit their gambling. The state lottery recommends setting budgets online, scheduling cool-off periods or self-excluding from online games, among other strategies.
