17-year-old worker pinned under vehicle that slammed into Longhorn Steakhouse, cops say
A 17-year-old worker was washing windows at Longhorn Steakhouse when she was pinned under a vehicle that crashed into the restaurant, according to Pennsylvania news reports.
First responders were called to the McCandless restaurant at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, TribLive reported. Using the Jaws of Life, rescuers got the teenager out from under the car.
She was taken to a hospital with an injury to her leg, WXPI reported. She was in stable condition.
“We are saddened this incident resulted in the injury of one of our team members and sincerely appreciate the quick response from the local authorities,” a spokesperson for Longhorn Steakhouse said in a statement to McClatchy News. “We are immensely grateful that her injuries are not life threatening and are doing everything we can to help in her recovery.”
Authorities said the driver, an 81-year-old woman, was also taken to a hospital, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
A preliminary investigation suggests the woman was driving in the parking lot when she struck the back of a pickup truck, WTAE reported. She then continued on, crashing into the landscaping and front of the Longhorn Steakhouse restaurant.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing. McClatchy News reached out to the McCandless Police Department on July 20 and was awaiting additional information.
The restaurant is temporarily closed, WXPI reported.
McCandless is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.
