Pennsylvania

Daylight saving time ends soon. How early will the sun rise and set in Pennsylvania?

In less than a week, Pennsylvanians will have to set their clocks back one hour, marking the end of daylight saving time.

This time change will appear to make the sun set even earlier in the day, and the sunset has continued to get earlier following autumnal equinox in September.

The sun will set at 6:04 p.m. in State College Saturday, the day before the time change, according to Time and Date, a Norway-based online clock. After clocks “fall back” at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, the sun is expected to set at 5:03 p.m.

For a quick recap, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports daylight saving time was made a legal requirement by the Uniform Time Act of 1966. But recently, the practice has been controversial, with state and federal lawmakers trying several times to scrap it altogether.

Only two states have succeeded in getting rid of daylight saving time: Hawaii and Arizona. However, the Navajo Nation portion of Arizona continues the practice.

Here’s a quick look at how the time change will affect the time when the sun will rise and set in State College.
