Tiny Chihuahuas left in pink cage with emotional note. ‘Please take care of them’
Two Chihuahuas were left in a pink cage with a heart-wrenching note.
“I love them so much,” the note found at the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) read. “Please take care of them and find them a nice home.”
The Philadelphia-based shelter went on social media June 28 to share a photo of the letter, “written with love and likely accompanied by tears.” The owner’s difficult decision to give up the beloved pups resonated with several Facebook users, including several who called the situation “heartbreaking.”
In the note, the owner describes making several calls for help before needing to surrender Bella and Bobby.
“Today is my last day at my home and I have (nowhere) for them to go,” the note said. “I wish I could take them with me but I can’t. I’m sorry to leave them with you guys but I do not want them roaming the streets.”
Bella is known as a cuddly dog while Bobby is “very emotional.” The Chihuahuas were surrendered as the shelter reports dogs and cats being left in its care at “an alarming rate.”
“We are seeing an uptick in animals abandoned, and a downturn in animals being adopted,” an SPCA spokesperson previously told McClatchy News. “While we don’t have one thing to point to, we believe that it is due to financial concerns.”
The shelter in its Facebook post didn’t reveal a potential adoption timeline for Bella and Bobby. But it said the dogs could go to an animal rescue “due to a potential seizure disorder.”
