A recent report from finance website GOBankingRates named Camp Hill the best place to live on a $100,000 salary in Pennsylvania due to the relatively affordable cost of living.

The ranking, published Oct. 31, was based on the total cost of annual necessities, median income and a “livability score,” according to the methodology.

Sources included the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, data and real estate company Area Vibes and more, GOBankingRates reports.

Here’s how Pennsylvania’s top city performed.

Camp Hill, Pa.

GOBankingRates gave Camp Hill a “livability score” of 92 out of 100. The livability score, which is developed by Area Vibes, considers factors such as crime rates, school quality, employment, amenities and more.

The borough has a median household income of $104,959, with a total annual necessities cost of $42,207, according to GOBankingRates.

Although the city made GOBankingRates’ list for being affordable for households making $100,000 per year, the city is not affordable for people working for the commonwealth’s minimum wage.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Living Wage Calculator does not have a number specific to Camp Hill, but reports Cumberland County has a living wage of $21.63 for one adult without children. Minimum wage is $7.25 per hour for nontipped workers in Pennsylvania.

Camp Hill has an estimated population of 8,163 as of 2023, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and about 4.9% of the area’s residents live in poverty. The median per capita income is $48,752.

Home values in Camp Hill are up 3.5% from last year, popular housing site Zillow reports, and most homes in the borough go pending after about six days on the market. Almost 69% of Camp Hill housing is owner-occupied, according to the Census Bureau.

Popular activities in and around Camp Hill include exploring local parks and American Civil War historical sites and shopping downtown.

Borough officials with Camp Hill were not immediately available for comment.

Money magazine recently recognized two other locales in Pennsylvania in a 50 Best Places to Live in the U.S. ranking for affordability, diversity and quality of life: Lancaster and Media.
