Winter weather causes messy morning commute, crashes, road restrictions in Centre County
Several roads were closed or restricted Wednesday as a snowstorm passed through Centre County and made travel difficult.
U.S. Route 322 was closed for several hours in parts of Harris, Rush and Worth townships because of multiple crashes or poor driving conditions.
Part of state Route 350 between Gardner Lane and Firetower Road was also closed. Traffic was alternating until the road reopened, state Department of Transportation spokeswoman Marla Fannin said.
The speed limit on Interstate 80 and I-99 were reduced to 45 mph until about 12:45 p.m.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday in northern Centre County. Two to four inches of snow were expected to fall, according to the National Weather Service.
Philipsburg averages about nine inches of snowfall in March, according to the NWS, about 18% of the area’s annual total.
