‘Gross, dreary’ weather making its way through Centre County. But there’s something to look forward to
A soaking rainstorm waltzed Friday into Centre County and is expected to remain through Saturday, putting a damper on any hopes of a picturesque graduation weekend.
The National Weather Service put a flood watch in effect from noon Friday until 2 p.m. Saturday. The widespread storm was expected to bring upward of three inches of rain.
The highest totals are expected south of Interstate 80, weather service meteorologist John Banghoff said.
Flash flooding is not expected. Small creeks and streams are likely to be bloated because of the duration of the storm, Banghoff said. The highest chance for river flooding is across the Juniata River basin and tributaries west of the lower Susquehanna River.
Mother Nature is expected to take it easy on Mother’s Day, though it still won’t be glorious.
The rainstorm is expected to move out of Centre County by dawn Sunday. The morning is forecast to be chilly and windy, Banghoff said, but should give way to sunshine in the afternoon. Temperatures should reach the mid-50s.
Increasingly mild temperatures should follow, reaching the 70s by as early as Tuesday.
“I think the trend is going to be good if we just make it through this gross, dreary weather Friday and Saturday,” Banghoff said. “There’s definitely some better weather ahead.”
