Centre County is under a flood watch. Here’s what you should know

Centre County is under a flood watch through Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service said many locations in central Pennsylvania will see multiple showers and thunderstorms during the day and into the early evening Monday, bringing a chance of flash flooding. Some of the storms will be slow moving with heavy downpours, the NWS said. Places that received heavy rain Sunday are most at risk for flooding.

The weather service expects showers and thunderstorms to continue Tuesday, with a 70% chance of precipitation. There’s a 40% chance of showers Wednesday.

Sunny skies with temperatures in the high 70s are forecast Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with rain potentially returning Saturday night.

What is a flood watch?

A flood watch indicates “conditions are favorable for flooding” to occur, the NWS said: “It does not mean flooding will occur, but it is possible.”

The next level would be a flood warning, issued when flooding is about to occur or has begun.
