Winter weather advisory is in effect Wednesday for Centre County. What’s the forecast?

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday for Centre County.

The National Weather Service expects the region to see a mix of precipitation.

“A light glaze of ice is likely, especially over the higher elevations,” the NWS says in the advisory. “Untreated roads and sidewalks could be slippery.”

The NWS forecast calls for rain, snow and sleet in State College before 1 p.m. That will be followed by rain, which may mix with snow between 1 and 2 p.m. The precipitation is expected to turn to all rain after that. Wind gusts could be as high as 20 mph.

Less than half an inch of snow and sleet will accumulate, according to the forecast. Temperatures will reach a high of 38.

The weather will swing wildly for the rest of the week, with temperatures Thursday reaching the upper 60s. The NWS sees a 30% chance of showers in the morning on Thursday before skies become partly sunny and winds pick up.

Friday will be sunny and windy, with the high temperature reaching only into the 30s. Saturday brings the next chance of snow, according to the weather service, with temperatures remaining in the 30s.
