After snow caused Centre County schools to close on Tuesday, concerns about morning road conditions have led to delay announcements for Wednesday.

Bellefonte, Bald Eagle, Penns Valley and Philipsburg-Osceola area school districts were all closed on Tuesday (Bellefonte and BEA had Flexible Instruction Days). State College Area School District students already did not have class due to a professional development day, and the district announced that buildings would open on a two-hour delay due to snowy road conditions.

On Tuesday evening, State College, Bellefonte, BEA and Philipsburg-Osceola announced they’ll operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday because of freezing temperatures leading to expected icy conditions. Penns Valley is also on a two-hour delay.

Classes and work at Penn State’s University Park campus were canceled until 5 p.m. Tuesday, the university announced after initially shutting activity down until 10 a.m. and noon in separate announcements.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory through noon Tuesday, and snowfall reports show State College received about 3 inches of snow. AccuWeather’s online forecast calls for temperatures below 10 degrees Fahrenheit early Wednesday morning.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reduced the speed limit on Interstate 80 in Centre County through late afternoon. Emergency responders were also called to numerous crashes across the county, according to dispatch reports.
