Rain started Tuesday in Centre County and by Wednesday afternoon, creek levels were rising and some local roadways were flooded.
A flood watch was in effect until 8 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, which cautioned that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
The rain caused a number road closures starting Wednesday morning, with road conditions leading four area school districts — Bald Eagle, Bellefonte, Penns Valley and Philipsburg-Osceola — to dismiss students early.
