Centre County under winter weather advisory starting Sunday morning. Here’s what we know
Much of central Pennsylvania — including Centre County — will be under a winter weather advisory starting Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Two similar-but-separate advisories were issued for Centre County, one for the southern part and one for the northern. The advisory for the southern part will be in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday through 7 a.m. Monday, while the advisory for the northern part will be in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday through 10 a.m. Monday.
According to the NWS, mixed precipitation is expected during that time with total snow accumulation up to 4 inches with a light glaze of ice, mainly on the higher elevations. Specifically in State College, the NWS called Saturday afternoon for 2-3 inches of snow through Tuesday morning.
“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the NWS’ advisory said. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.”
The NWS issues winter advisories, watches and warnings throughout the season. Warnings are the most severe, followed by watches and then advisories. A winter weather advisory — such as the one that goes in effect Sunday in Centre County — simply asks for people to exercise caution because the wintry weather, which might be light, could cause slippery conditions. A warning lets people know heavy precipitation is expected and should cause significant impacts such as closed roads.
