Winter weather advisory issued for Centre County with snow, ice forecast. What to know
After Punxsutawney Phil made his seasonal prediction Sunday morning, a winter weather advisory was issued for areas of central Pennsylvania — including all of Centre County — through early Monday morning.
The advisory issued by the National Weather Service State College calls for snow Sunday afternoon and evening followed by “lingering light freezing rain or freezing drizzle” in the late evening and overnight hours.
“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the advisory states. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.”
The advisory, which is in effect from 4 p.m. Sunday through 7 a.m. Monday, calls for total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches across the Northern Mountains and one inch near and just to the south of the Interstate 80 corridor. Ice accumulations of less than one tenth of an inch are predicted.
Accuweather predicts a high of 51 degrees Fahrenheit on Monday and 41 degrees on Tuesday, with more possible snow and ice mid-week.
