What to know about power outages, resources after severe storm in Centre County

Thousands of Centre County homes remain without power Thursday evening after a severe storm rolled through the area Tuesday, bringing down trees and power lines.

After more than 30,000 were without power Wednesday, the number dropped to 18,570 on Thursday morning as crews work to clear debris and restore utility poles and lines. Todd Meyers, spokesperson for FirstEnergy, said they expect to have power restored “for the majority of customers” by 11 p.m. Sunday. Meyers expected crews working on the outages will make significant progress on Thursday, and by Thursday night another 13,000 had power restored.

After closures on Wednesday, local schools are returning to more normal operations. The State College Area School District had a two-hour delay Thursday but is operating normally Friday.
