Snowstorm could slow Centre County travel, forecasts say. Here’s when to expect it
Centre County and Central Pennsylvania are in for a snowy Tuesday, with 1 to 6 inches of snow forecasted the morning of Dec. 2.
Centre County and much of the region are under a winter weather advisory from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. Snow is expected to taper off in the early afternoon, and daytime temperatures aren’t expected to get much higher than freezing.
Centre County government offices will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a county spokesperson, 90 minutes later than usual. The county courthouse will open at noon.
Five of the county’s six senior centers will be closed, with only Penns Valley Senior Resource Center set to operate as usual, as of 5 p.m. Monday. Home meals for seniors will not be delivered Tuesday.
The National Weather Service warned of snow-covered roadways during Tuesday’s morning commute. Motorcycles, buses, trailers, RVs, oversize loads and empty tractor trailers will be banned from Interstate 80 east of the Centre County line starting at 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to a Department of Transportation press release.
School districts are likely to make determinations about delays and closures late Monday or early Tuesday. State College Area School District tries to get alerts out by 5:30 a.m. the day of a weather event. No school closure announcements have been made as of 1 p.m. Monday.
Road conditions can be obtained by calling 511. Live traffic camera feeds are also available for Interstate 80, Interstate 99, U.S. Route 322, state Route 45 in Centre Hall, state Route 144 outside Centre Hall, the intersection of Benner Pike and College Avenue and various portions of Atherton Street.
Snow showers and sleet are again possible the night of Thursday, Dec. 4 through early Saturday, Dec. 6, though forecasts do not predict accumulations in Centre County as of Monday.
