Parts of Centre County under winter weather advisory. How much snow you can expect
Centre County’s mountainous northwestern regions and a strip of Central Pennsylvania are under a winter weather advisory, effective from 5 p.m. Monday through 2 a.m. Tuesday, March 17.
The National Weather Service, which issued the advisory, said between 1 and 4 inches of snow are possible overnight in areas like Philipsburg and Snow Shoe. Commercial forecasters like AccuWeather and Weather Underground are predicting less than 3 inches of snow.
Lower lying areas of Centre County, like State College, may see a coating to an inch overnight. The winter weather advisory warns of slippery road conditions during the Monday evening commute. Gusts of up to 40 mph are possible.
“It’s March,” said AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines. “Unfortunately it does happen.”
He said that while “there’s gonna be a lot of people upset tomorrow,” Central Pennsylvania is being spared from the worst of the storm. Parts of the Upper Midwest are getting up to 3 feet of snow.
The possible snow comes alongside a cold front, expected to start late Monday and last through Wednesday, March 18. Lows in the teens ans 20s are possible, and Tuesday temperatures are not forecasted to get above freezing. Kines said it may feel like single digits.
