The article in the CDT of Sept. 24 accompanied by photo showing a cheering family whose 13-year-old boy has just shot the elk in front of them is appalling. The family’s promise to allow the boy to kill any animal of his choice surely undermines the development of empathy for all living creatures. A more beneficial and rewarding experience for any youngster would surely be to let him share the care of a loving puppy with his family.
