On whose future is PSU focusing?

On whose future is Penn State focusing?

“Penn State is a leader in higher education and carries out its mission of teaching, research, and service with pride and focus on the future.”

These words can be found directly on the Penn State website. Yet the decision to sell the parcel of land on Whitehall Road to Toll Brothers demonstrates that the only future Penn State thinks of is the return on investments and not of the community, the environment or even the regional watershed.

Selling land to a developer that has settled with the EPA for $741,000 for allegedly discharging pollutants at 370 sites in 23 states does not embody any of the values that Penn State so proudly espouses. Toll Brothers’ track record clearly demonstrates it does not abide by best practices.

Penn State has been touted as a leading land grant university for more than 100 years. We want it to continue to show leadership for another 100 years. We urge Penn State not to sell its land to the Toll Brothers.
