Climate change pro/con a disservice to readers
The recent “Opinion” page of the CDT did a huge disservice to its readers in its pro/con article on Hurricane Harvey and climate change in Tuesday’s edition. You gave two professional writers, hardly experts in climatology, each three columns to argue their opinions, and in doing so gave your readers the appearance that climate change, in general, is a debatable subject.
If you were really being fair, the 97 percent of climatologists who understand that climate change is warming the planet and that humans are causing that change would have many pages of comment, versus the few columns given to those with the opposite view. If the climate change issue were a heavyweight fight, it would be a TKO win in the first round, the deniers a bloody mess.
Do right by your readers and report facts by experts. Do the detailed analysis necessary to write a comprehensive story on what may well be the worst thing the world will experience. It’s not that you have too go far to get the information — PSU has the expertise right here in Happy Valley.
