Country descending into madness

There have been three recent terror attacks. In France, two people were killed. In Canada, five people were injured. In the U.S., 59 people were killed and 500 injured. The main difference: people here can legally buy assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.

It would be easy for Congress to make it a felony to possess high-capacity clips (say, more than 10 rounds). However, politicians like Congressman Glenn Thompson lack the courage to stand up to the National Rifle Association and refuse to take any action to protect us.

Therefore, the blood of the Las Vegas victims is on the hands of Glenn Thompson, Donald Trump, the NRA, and their ilk. In any decent society, the national legislature would act to protect the people. But not here.

Canada has great universities, good job opportunities, a better social safety net than we have, universal health care, and very little gun violence. The same is true for most countries in Europe. Meanwhile, citizens in this country continue to vote into office cowards like Trump and Thompson. So, to young people I would say, get out of this country before it descends further into madness. There are better places to live, raise a family, and build a new life.
