Something missing form article

We are in the midst of a record-breaking hurricane season. Hundreds remain missing during historical fires in California. And a local businessman has been nominated to lead the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. As I read the article about Barry Myer’s nomination, the preeminent question in my mind was whether Mr. Myers understands and agrees with the overwhelming scientific evidence supporting human-caused climate change. After all, he will be leading an organization whose charge is to “understand and predict changes in climate, weather, oceans and coasts.”

Although I am sure I am not the only reader who has this question, climate change was not mentioned in the article. This seems like a strange omission — one that might not have been made if the nominee were not a State College resident. Perhaps a follow-up article is in order?

Terrill Salter, State College
