Elect Ron Madrid for mayor

I have known Ron Madrid for more than 50 years. Yes, I have known him since high school.

During that time I have seen Ron demonstrate leadership, integrity, honesty, courtesy, passion for excellence and the ability to build consensus among opposing viewpoints. These are critical qualities that the mayor of State College must possess to bring our community together.

Although I am a Democrat, Ron has my vote for mayor of State College. We should all vote for Ron Madrid.

Ron’s continuing commitment to this community over the past 22 years is evidenced by his work as president of the Holmes-Foster Neighborhood Association, which includes residents, students and non-residents alike.

Through his past work on the borough’s Planning Commission, Historic Resource Commission and as the current chair of the Real Estate Advisory Commission, Ron has gained a critical perspective of our community issues and concerns. Ron listens with respect to every resident who speaks and makes certain they are dealt with courteously. Madrid will always treat every individual with respect and dignity.

Ron is leading the initiative to change state laws to achieve self-determination for State College. The success of this initiative is critical for the financial future of the borough. It will enable the residents of State College to determine their taxing authority. We need Ron Madrid as mayor to continue these important efforts on our behalf.

I urge you to elect Ron Madrid to Mayor of State College on Nov. 7.

Denise V. Lanning, State College
