‘Incredible’ achievement missed by CDT
On Sunday morning, Nov. 5, Shalane Flanagan ran 26.2 miles from Staten Island to Central Park to become the first American woman in 40 years, that’s right, 40 years, to win the New York City Marathon. In fifth place was Allie Kieffer, also from the U.S., who did some of her training right here in State College. This was a fantastic performance, and in my opinion the most significant sporting achievement of the weekend, if not the entire year. Your “award-winning” newspaper failed to print a single word of this amazing story. That’s almost as incredible as Shalane’s win itself.
Tom Cali, State College
