Spring Creek already strained

In the Jan. 4 Centre Daily Times there was an article headlined: “Centre County in running for $50 million manufacturing facility.” The article is about Nestle Waters considering a bottled water plant in Spring or Benner township. Although the article says this is a “manufacturing facility,” taking a natural resource and putting it in plastic bottles is just extraction. This is an extraction industry, like coal stripping, gas fracking and stone quarrying, of which Centre County has plenty, or suffers the negative impact therefrom. The Spring Creek watershed is already strained by the water demands of the Centre Region, and will be more so in the future. Our community can’t afford to allow Nestle Waters to mine the Spring Creek watershed.
