Letters: Remembering Hal and Natalie Hallock’s contributions; Urge Sen. Toomey to vote yea
Remembering Hal and Natalie Hallock’s contributions
Any one of the thousands of people who enjoyed the Haunted Granary in the Thompson Grain Elevator, from 1997 to 2010, remembers The Dinky Shed Shows featuring the late Hal and Natalie Hallock and some very talented actors and crew. They created Crazed Chiropractors, Psychotic Psychiatrists, Manic MD’s, Demented Dentists, Fractured Fairy Tales and more, in hilarious skits to entertain everyone. Hal and Natalie came up with something new and entertaining every year.
Many other people contributed to this favorite event, originated by a talented chiropractor, Roy Love, that raised over $100,000 for the Lemont Village Association over the years, and really helped to save the Thompson Grain Elevator and Coal Sheds from almost certain demise. The LVA discontinued it after 13 years, because of burn-out of the organizers and because the buildings were no longer “haunted” — so much renovation had happened that we could no longer find any ghosts!
Hal and Natalie Hallock contributed to our community in so many ways in lots of organizations. They will live on in the memories of all those who loved to be scared and entertained at the Haunted Granary.
Urge Sen. Toomey to vote yea
It was with grave concern that I listened to the irrefutable evidence presented at the House impeachment hearings. Tragically, our president has taken illegal actions and places himself above the law and the Democratic process. He deserves to be convicted of his numerous crimes.
Many say our representative, Republican Sen. Patrick Toomey, will not vote to convict. Given the preponderance of convicting evidence, Toomey’s failure would seem driven by greed, power and/or fear. It is time to implore Sen. Toomey to honor his oath of office and vote yea to convict and remove. Please join me in contacting Sen. Toomey to ask that he choose country over self-interest and vote to remove President Trump from office.
Here are actions you can take:
Call: 202-224-4254! Fax:202-228-0284! Write a letter to Senator Toomey, 248 Russell Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510! Email him by scrolling to the bottom the Senator’s website Toomey.senate.gov and click on “email us.”
In addition, attend rallies! Currently, a rally is scheduled for Monday at noon at the Gates in front of Old Main in downtown State College. Watch for details.
Some argue, “Why bother, it won’t do any good.” Perhaps. But for sure it does no good to do nothing! Please, take action and do all you can to urge Senator Toomey to represent his constituents and honor his oath.
Thompson, Keller failed consumers with vote
Both Republican Congressmen who are supposed to represent the State College area voted against a bill that would lower the cost of prescription drugs. By voting to protect drug companies instead of consumers, Glenn Thompson and Fred Keller voted against the best interests of their constituents.
This bill, HR 3, would allow the government to negotiate with drug companies to bring down drug prices.
Republicans claim that would be “socialistic.” Depending on their definition of socialism, maybe it is. But the result would be a fairer deal for consumers. If that’s socialism, bring it on!
By the way, all Democrats in the House voted for this bill. It’s too bad we’re not represented by one of them.
