Letters: Trump deserves credit for accomplishments; GOP senators betrayed oaths of office

Trump deserves credit for accomplishments

While President Trump continues to deliver for America, Congressional Democrats continue to behave like the south facing ends of north facing donkeys.

That said, I’d like to comment on a Feb. 6 letter to the editor, “GOP should seek new candidate for president.” The writer alleges that charges of abuse of power, emolument violations, FBI and CIA slurs, nepotism and taking credit for success is reason enough for the GOP to dump Trump.

So, let’s examine the allegations. Abuse of power: Trump was acquitted. Emolument violations: the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals tossed a Democrat lawsuit that accused Trump of profiting from foreign government officials’ patronage of his businesses. FBI and CIA slurs: the FBI and CIA are under investigation for actions taken against the Trump campaign in 2016. Nepotism: Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, who work without pay, contribute to the administration and are among the few advisors that Trump can trust.

As for taking credit, all I can say is look at the accomplishments.

Trump tax cuts (including corporate), deregulation and trade policies have resulted in factories and jobs returning to the U.S. He renegotiated NAFTA and took on China trade abuse. He forced NATO allies to pay up. Despite Democrat obstruction, he worked with Mexico and few Central American nations to dramatically reduce the flow of illegals into the U.S. He’s building the promised wall. Finally, he’s opposed to economy destroying socialism.

Dump Trump? No way! Trump is a winner and deserves to be reelected.

Vote for Trump!

GOP senators betrayed oaths of office

The Republican Senate acquitted the president. They now own his behavior.

Predictably, Trump is acting like a despot. He has not “learned a lesson” as several massively naive senators declared he would.

Trump’s firing of Col. Alexander Vindman, a Purple Heart recipient with shrapnel in his body, is just the beginning of his deranged campaign of retribution. Vindman, a career civil servant, not a politician, bravely told truth to power, putting the Constitution ahead of his own personal interests.

Trump’s “speech” at the National Prayer Breakfast was wildly inappropriate and pockmarked by foul language. His undignified hourlong rant at the White House and on live TV dishonored the brave Americans who testified in the impeachment trial.

Mitt Romney was the lone Republican statesman. His speech on the floor of the Senate was both moving and inspiring. He knew he would incur the wrath of our unstable president, put his family at risk and jeopardize his political future. Still, he did what was RIGHT.

History will accurately record that, save Romney, the Senate’s Republicans, including Senator Toomey, beholden to the president, betrayed their oaths of office and the oaths they swore on a Bible before the trial began. In so doing, they weakened American democracy and strengthened the power of the unstable bully who occupies the White House.

As we watch what unfolds in the coming weeks and months, know that those senators now own Trump’s despicable behavior. He learned from their cover-up that he can do whatever he wants.
