Letters: Why bail out the cruise industry?; Stay-at-home mandates needed to beat virus
Why bail out the cruise industry?
Why are we considering a bailout for the cruise industry when the vast majority of cruise lines register their ships in other foreign countries, one reason for which is to avoid paying U.S. taxes?
We should welcome their request for bailout money as soon as they register their ships in the United States and pay their fair share of taxes to warrant such assistance.
Stay-at-home mandates needed to beat virus
Gov. Tom Wolf’s closing facilities was an essential step of social isolation necessary to end this deadly pandemic. If unabated the coronavirus will cause millions of deaths in America.
Stay-at-home mandates are needed. Many will stop normal day to day activities to stop the spread of COVID-19. Some will refuse and must be required to distance themselves to protect us all.
The pill is bitter, but is a means of relief. Epidemiologists, medical and health professionals know their business, which is to prevent the spread of disease to keep us healthy. We must follow the prescription of self distancing and stay at home.
Social distancing and stay-at-home orders have a real, scary impact on our lives. We need a bailout. A government bailout for working men and women of our country.
Workers will not get paid to stay home. But staying home is essential to stop this virus. Workers deserve and must have a bailout this time. After all, bailout money comes from worker’s tax dollars.
The USA was not prepared for this, but regardless of what the government does we must reduce transmission of the COVID-19 virus by distancing and staying at home.
The virus will die out if not transmitted. Weeks or a month of distancing — it is worth the lives of millions of Americans.
We can be strong and defeat this deadly virus.
Artists, audiences need a place for performances
Founded in 2017 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3), Nittany Performing Arts Centre has as its mission: To create a community performing arts center, easily accessible for audiences in Centre County with an attractive atmosphere and optimal acoustical properties.
There are literally hundreds of performing artists in Centre County, members of orchestras, bands, choruses, dance companies and theater companies in need of:
• adequate stage size
• appropriate audience size
• an orchestra pit
• a proscenium and fly space
• dressing rooms and green room
• rehearsal space
NPAC is working to build a performance facility that will provide visitors to our community with:
• an attractive lobby for celebrations, meetings and catering
• a venue for visiting performing artists and ensembles
• a venue for Arts Fest and other music, dance and drama festivals
• a gallery to display arts and crafts
• a black box for jazz and theater performances and rehearsals
Coronavirus has caused cancellations for many community performances in Centre County. In the meantime, please enjoy a few of the performances on our website, www.nittanypac.org
When the arts and culture interweave with the fabric of a community, it enriches our people, attracts visitors and tourists, presents diverse talent, fosters innovation and contributes to economic growth.
