Letters: USPS fulfilling vital mission through pandemic; United in coronavirus fight

USPS fulfilling vital mission through pandemic

The United States Postal Service is committed to delivering your mail and packages throughout the current pandemic. We are proud of our role in providing an essential service to every community. The one constant throughout this crisis has been our commitment to fulfilling the vital mission of the Postal Service.

We would like to share the following information and requests:

  • USPS wants to help keep you – and our employees – safe. We ask for you to maintain a safe distance at all times. The Centers for Disease Control recommends keeping a distance of six feet or more between other individuals. Please allow a safe distance between you and your letter carrier or post office clerk while they are performing their duties.

  • We know it is a challenge to find ways to connect with family and friends at this time. Please remember anything without postage and not related to USPS business should not be placed in mailboxes.

  • It is important to note the CDC, the World Health Organization and the U.S. Surgeon General have all said there is very low risk that this virus is being spread through mail.

Our mission to bind the nation together is achieved through the tireless efforts and sacrifices of our dedicated employees. The outpouring of support you have shown has had a great impact on everyone at the Postal Service. Knowing how much you care means everything to us. On behalf of all employees at the Bellefonte Post Office — thank you.

Brenton Fitzpatrick, postmaster of the Bellefonte Post Office.

United in coronavirus fight

For all the fear and stress in the air now, it is very important to say emphatically we are all not unemployed now, but rather temporarily nationalized to fight the virus. This is a world problem and we are all helping America do her part and the world now before us is a matter of all our common concern. It is coming together before our eyes. Let us rise to the occasion and become citizens of the shining blue borderless planet, our morally shared home.

Conklin offers needed leadership during crisis

The nationwide coronavirus is devastating Pennsylvania and the U.S. We need honest, hardworking leaders willing to work with doctors and scientists to make tough decisions to save people. Pennsylvania once again is the crucial battleground to save American democracy and our U.S. Constitution. We need every Democrat to turn out and vote for primary candidates who will hold back the tide of corruption and oppression this fall.

The most important race to sway the presidential election will be the Democratic candidate for Auditor General. There are six people running, but only one candidate can uplift the presidential candidate to victory this fall: State Rep. Scott Conklin of Centre County. The deciding votes for President Trump in 2016 did not come from southeast or southwest Pennsylvania, but from the central Pennsylvania counties that make up the “T” region in the state. Our votes in rural Pennsylvania do matter and will be the deciding factor this fall.

Scott Conklin is the only candidate who has won a statewide primary on small donations. He offers decades of both business and governmental experience, along with working class endorsements. He offers leadership that we need during crises.

President Abraham Lincoln said at Gettysburg: “We highly resolve that our nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the Earth.” A vote for Scott Conklin will ensure our freedoms will not perish this fall.
