Letters: Make us proud, Penn Staters, and follow COVID regulations

Benninghoff a voice of reason

State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff is the right person to represent the values of Centre and Mifflin Counties, and I am proud to have him as our voice of reason in the General Assembly. Benninghoff has been a strong leader for the folks of our community and in advocating for things that will truly help people: investments in cancer research and better health care, keeping taxes low, bringing good-paying jobs to our region, and supporting working families, children and seniors.

I am a registered Democrat and it is because of Benninghoff’s common-sense approach and tireless work on behalf of his constituents that the people of this area have sent him to represent us in Harrisburg. Having personally interacted with his local office, I know Benninghoff’s door is always open and our questions and concerns are always addressed. Benninghoff’s love of our community and commitment to ensuring we have the best representation in the state legislature are why I, and many others, continue to support him in office.

As we consider our future, and what leadership looks like in times of a pandemic and not, I cannot think of a better person to have working for us in Harrisburg.

Make us proud, Penn Staters

I am a former longtime resident of State College. I am 74 and was diagnosed with scoliosis in 1951. Because of the dangers of polio and poor income from a father who was a Penn State masters student and a mother who was a housekeeper, was sent to the State Hospital for Crippled Children in 1951 for six months and 10 days, and again in 1954 was sent for two years, two months and 10 days.

Unless the current class of Penn State students wants either to attend Penn State virtually or risk getting sick and quarantined like polio patients, grow up and follow COVID regulations. You students are a disappointment to your PSU alumni, parents and grandparents. I have six members of my family, including me, who attended Penn State, and stepfather who worked there for 34 years. I worked there and attended starting in 1966. My daughter graduated from there in 1992. My father got his masters in 1953, and my mother worked there in the 1950s. My granddaughter graduated from there in the 2010s. I m ashamed of all you students who have violated the student conduct order of Penn State for COVID-19. That’s not like the type of honorable Penn State alumni who have gone to and graduated from the university in the past. My life bookends the polio epidemic and COVID-19. Please, I pray and ask you to grow up and ask lie adults.

Make us proud!

Get what you deserve

There is an old saying that goes “you get what you deserve.” Every American who is appalled by the lack of leadership in this country, is tired of everything becoming a political nightmare, is tired of the name-calling, is disgusted by President Donald Trump and Congress not doing what is right for this country and for the citizens they have been elected to represent, of persons that Trump has placed in positions that affect the lives of every person in this country and who have blatantly ignored the Constitution by doing what they feel like without due process, needs to vote.

Our government is supposed to be of the people, by the people and for the people. Unfortunately it has become of, by and for Trump and his group of yes men and women. If we continue to do nothing about this by not speaking out, by not contacting our senators and congressmen, and by not voting to right these horrendous wrongs, then we will get what we deserve — four more years of turmoil. If we embrace our constitutional right by voting either in person or by absentee or mail-in ballot, then perhaps we can again make America great.
