Why Trump believes ‘it will go away’

Thanks to Bob Woodward’s tape recordings of his interviews with President Donald Trump, we now have Trump‘s own words about the coronavirus. On Feb. 7, 2020, he told Woodward: “It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flus. . . . This is deadly stuff.” Yet, in late March, Trump lied to Americans when he said the coronavirus was no worse than the flu. He even complained, “But we’ve never closed down the country for the flu. ... So you say to yourself, “What is this all about?”

Trump admitted to downplaying the threat, supposedly to avoid sowing public panic. Tellingly, however, except for his highly porous China travel ban, he correspondingly failed to initiate any virus containment measures. No ramping up of the production of masks, PPE, ventilators, or tests. No early shutdown of the country, when a two-week earlier shutdown could have saved more than 50,000 lives.

“I alone can fix it” Trump fixed nothing. Consequently, Trump has American blood (and job losses) on his hands.

Since February, Trump repeatedly has assured Americans that the virus “will go away.” Yet, at Trump’s town hall meeting in Philadelphia on Tuesday, he introduced a new wrinkle: the virus “would go away” even without a vaccine.

How? “Herd immunity.” It’s the pernicious dogma peddled by Trump’s new medical adviser, “anti-Fauci” quack, Dr. Scott Atlas.

Left unsaid was the cost of successful herd immunity — the loss of as many as 6 million lives.

Waltz will be representative for all

What is a Representative? The very definition of “representative” is: a person chosen to act and speak on behalf of a wider group. The job of the state representative of the 76th District is to speak and act for all of the people in our district no matter their race, creed, orientation or party affiliation. Why would you run for the office if you weren’t willing to represent every one of your constituents?

I know Joe Waltz. Through his years as educator, coach, his work with numerous organizations and commissions, and his years of work with the Clinton County Democratic Committee, I find Joe to be intelligent, competent, dedicated and honest. He knows how to communicate and work with people. I am confident that Joe will look out for our best interests in the areas of agriculture, the economy and jobs, energy and the environment, health care, infrastructure, veterans’ resources and education.

He will ensure that the constitutional rights and freedoms of all of us in the 76th District will be protected, including our rights to free speech, peaceful assembly and responsible gun ownership. Joe will work hard to best serve the people he is elected to represent. The 76th District deserves Joe Waltz as our state representative.

Thanks, commissioners, for voting efforts

Thank you to Centre County Commissioners Michael Pipe and Mark Higgins for working to provide the citizens of our county with a safe, secure means to vote.

Their proposal allows for free transportation for those 60 and over to the several locations where drop boxes will be available, thereby creating a more inclusive and easier means of voting for all. Making voting easier and more efficient is democracy at its best!

Mike and Mark, you truly represent the interests of our citizens and help to preserve the integrity of our democracy in these difficult times. Well done!

Joe and Charlie O’Neill, Warriors Mark

Make a difference by voting

Donald Trump is the most corrupt, incompetent, and traitorous president in U.S. history. Just look at the economy laid waste, 200,000 COVID deaths, the indicted and imprisoned members of his administration, the fires and hurricanes spawned by the climate change that he continues to ignore, his deference to Putin

.But none of this damage and destruction would have been possible if it weren’t for Trump’s enablers in Washington. These include our own Representatives in Congress: Glenn Thompson, Fred Keller and Pat Toomey.

And now you can do something to rid the country of Trump and his enablers, and make America a better place. On Nov. 3, you can vote against Trump, Thompson and Keller. (And in a couple years against Toomey.) Better yet, get a mail-in ballot, and send it in before Nov. 3, to make sure it’s counted.
