Letters: ‘No’ votes on infrastructure bill send message; PA residents, kids to benefit from historic bill
‘No’ votes on infrastructure bill send message
Congressmen Fred Keller and Glenn Thompson really don’t care about their constituents, since they did not join other Republicans in voting for the recently passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Look around you, central Pennsylvanians. Check out PennDOT’s website and see the poor condition of our local bridges, which close and cause us longer commutes. An increase in destructive flooding has ruined our roads. Many households can’t obtain a basic internet connection for their children’s schoolwork. And young people studying at CPI and tech programs are waiting for jobs to repair and strengthen our highways and waterways.
These troubles will now be eased! The money spent will be returned to our communities in employment, safer highways and drinking water, and accessible broadband.
Meanwhile, Keller and Thompson remain proud of our potholes, leaded pipes and poisonous abandoned mines, keeping us in the dark so they can keep their day jobs.
PA residents, kids to benefit from historic bill
Critical infrastructure funding is coming to Pennsylvania! Thank goodness! Finally, there’s going to be money funded by President Biden’s new bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill for urgently needed community projects that will benefit the lives of Pennsylvania residents everywhere. There will be money for building and repairing roads, bridges, trains, airports; expanding rural internet access; training workers for new energy efficient jobs; cleaning up toxic gas/oil wells, polluted streams, and old nuclear plants; manufacturing electric cars; fighting climate change weather events; andyes ... replacing old faulty lead water pipes that poison our children and grandchildren’s futures. As quoted by US Senator Bob Casey’s staff in the Wednesday CDT, “Pennsylvania, with roughly 160,000 lead sewer lines in place now, will receive about $1.4 billion over the next 5 years” to help rid lead from our precious water.
Governor Wolf’s “Restore PA” infrastructure investment program can now move forward despite being blocked for years by a Republican controlled Pennsylvania state legislature, headed by Senator Jake Corman and Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, and despite U.S. Rep. Fred Keller and Glenn Thompson casting “no” votes for this infrastructure bill in the U.S. House of Representatives on Nov. 6. Kudos to all those other U.S. legislators who did vote yes for this massive historic piece of legislation. All the residents of Pennsylvania, and the nation as a whole, especially our children, will positively reap the long-term benefits from this bill for years to come.
GOP in sorry state
The Republican Party, the self-proclaimed party of law and order, once again proved they are anything but. Recently all House members of the GOP, save two, voted not to censure Paul Gosar for his despicable cartoon video showing him killing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and President Biden. Apparently, the GOP members of the House thought this was acceptable behavior by one of their members. By the way, the two GOP members voting to censure were not Fred Keller and Glenn Thompson!
It was these same GOP House members who said the January 6 insurrection was not a riot but rather just interested individuals touring the Capitol. Therefore, they refused to support the creation of a bipartisan committee to investigate the insurrection and are working very hard to scuttle the current investigation.
The current Republican Party is nothing like the Republican Party of Eisenhower, Reagan or George H.W. Bush. The current party is one of Trump, Kevin McCarthy, Paul Gosar, Marjorie Taylor Green, Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz, Louie Gohmert, Mo Brooks, and Fred Keller. What a fine group to be the face of the party.
The current GOP is more like a cult than a political party. Cult member bow at the feet of the cult leader in Mar-a-Lago and are afraid to criticize anything he says or does.
