Don’t let them bring back gerrymandering
The bipartisan Legislative Reapportionment Commission (LRC) seems to have leveled the playing field for PA House elections a bit too much. Its proposed new district maps undo decades worth of gerrymandering, resulting in districts which favor the GOP only slightly. That’s apparently not good enough for Kerry Benninghoff, Seth Grove and other Republicans who are trying to amend the PA constitution and do an end run to keep the old way of PA politics alive.
House Bill 2207, which was passed out of committee with no public hearings, would abolish the LRC and replace it with a politicized “citizens” commission appointed by leaders of the General Assembly. Even worse: the Senate would have complete say in approval of the Senate map, while the House would have complete say in approval of the House map. Either chamber could vote down the work of the commission, create their own map and pass it as a resolution by a simple majority. The governor would not be allowed a veto. If citizens appealed the map the courts would have to return it to the chamber for revision. This is an unprecedented conflict of interest, opening the door to even more gerrymandered districts.
Tell your representative to oppose HB 2207.
What’s to like about Biden?
A recent Quinnipiac poll shows Joe Biden’s (White House occupant) favorability now stands at 33%. Given Biden’s history of failure, who are the 33% and what is it about Biden that they could possible like?
Are they really happy with Biden’s COVID response? Remember that he once promised to shut down the virus. Yet, despite having inherited three vaccines and at least a few therapeutics, more people have died from COVID in 2021 than 2020.
Could the 33% like the 7% Biden inflation tax and the higher fuel prices that are devastating lower income earners and retirement savings?
Are they really excited to see empty store shelves and fewer choices?
Do they like thousands of unvetted illegal immigrants being released into the country, many without COVID testing or vaccinations?
Are they particularly happy to see Joe disgrace himself and our country? Remember Afghanistan? What about Joe sleeping during the climate conference and that pesky “minor incursion” comment.
Maybe they like Biden’s tyrannical vaccine mandate that’s forcing health care workers to choose between the jab and a job. Then he complains when there aren’t enough doctors and nurses to care for COVID patients.
They must love the fact that the US Attorney General issued a memorandum (at the behest of the Secretary of Education and the National School Board Association) to intimidate concerned parents speaking out at school board meetings.
The 33% need to wake up. Biden and his entire regime must go now. Demand Biden’s impeachment!
‘Philadelphia card’ only a distraction
When the central Pennsylvania Republican State Committee Caucus gives him only seven votes out of more than 100 cast in a straw poll for Governor, what does Jake Corman, do? He suggests impeachment of the Philadelphia District Attorney.
As he has done throughout his career, Corman, the president pro tempore of the Pennsylvania Senate, raises the “Philadelphia card” as a way to try to create resentment in rural Pennsylvania. When one of the Republican candidates for Governor, Charlie Gerow, who famously drove down the Pennsylvania Turnpike last year with a motorcycle lodged into the grill of his Mercedes 300, gets 12 votes and you only get seven, you need a distraction.
Corman appeared on Steve Bannon’s podcast last month (the podcast has been called a “fantasyland of dangerous election lies”) and hired Kellyanne Conway to spread lies about his standing in the polls. He also refuses to call out the Big Lie about the 2020 Presidential Election. Just what the Republicans need for their 2022 nominee — a Trump loyalist named Jake Corman who is too afraid to call out even his most outlandish lies.
As someone who once voted for Jake Corman, it appears that the Central Pennsylvania Republican Caucus poll got it right. In the 2018 election, Centre County voters chose Corman’s opponent over him by more than 3,500 votes. Turns out, those who know him best, vote for him the least!
