Letters: Corman now in front seat of ‘clown car’; What’s the plan in Halfmoon Township?

Corman now in front seat of ‘clown car’

Way back in August of 2021, I wrote that Jake Corman had jumped on board the Trump Clown car with his call for a “forensic investigation” of the 2020 election. Sanctioned for their lies about voter fraud, former lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell are no longer in the driver and passenger seats. With his recent newsletter proclaiming that he “will not stop fighting to improve our voting system,” Corman has replaced them and jumped into the front seat of the clown car.

Please remember that more than 60 courts have judged there was no widespread voter fraud. The Department of Justice under Republican William Barr made the same determination. Christopher Krebs, a lifelong Republican, who oversaw the election, said “it was the most secure” in U.S. history.

Saying you are fighting for election integrity is like saying you are fighting for free air. We already have both and neither is being threatened.

What Corman is really fighting for is himself and his precarious position as a GOP gubernatorial candidate. Let’s send him the way of the other Trump clowns.

Celebrating a milestone birthday

I’d like to pay tribute to an amazing woman and State College resident for 55 years, Mary Reed Sweitzer. Mary will turn 100 years young on this St. Patrick’s Day. Mrs. Sweitzer was a junior high music/choral teacher at Westerly Parkway School for 30 years. She touched and continues to touch many members of her community deeply. Her favorite motto? “Stir what ya got!” Her daughter, Joanne Suenkonis and son, Chris Sweitzer, are proud to know her and wish her a fond, “Happy Birthday, Mom!”

What’s the plan in Halfmoon Township?

In a recent Halfmoon Township meeting, Supervisors Dave Piper and Chuck Beck moved to fire township manager Denise Gembusia. They were asked: “If you fire Denise, what’s the plan?”

The question seemed entirely reasonable.

Supervisor Beck responded, “Wait and see.”

I wonder if these gentlemen have a plan. Have they been sharing their ideas with the other members of the board of supervisors or have they been meeting, in violation of the Sunshine Law, developing a plan without input from others? Supervisors Hartle and Strouse, when asked separately, did not know their vision of the future for the township.

Misters Piper and Beck joined Halfmoon Township Board of Supervisors in January 2020. At their first meeting they voted against the re-appointment of the roadmaster, township manager and assistant secretary.

Both recently proposed to fire the manager, give part-time road crew members an $8.50 per hour raise, pull Halfmoon Township out of C-Net, and pull the township out of COG. These proposals were made without acknowledging how these pay increases or services would be covered. (Mr. Piper did say meetings could be recorded with a tape recorder, and anyone with paper and pencil could take notes.)

So please gentlemen, what is your plan? Are you making suggestions without input from other members of the board of supervisors and the citizens in the community?

Everyone in Halfmoon Township needs to know so we can weigh the costs and benefits.

Virginia Squier, Warriors Mark
