Republicans working against Americans

Why do Republicans continue to vote against their own interests?

In the last year, the Biden administration has created more jobs than at any time in American history. Unemployment claims also saw its largest drop ever.

The current administration has expanded health care for nearly 5 million Americans, reduced childhood poverty to its lowest rate ever, and cut the number of households experiencing food insecurity by 32%, improving the lives of ordinary Americans in an immediate way.

In the longer term, this administration has made the largest investments ever in the power grid, electric vehicle chargers, climate resilience and clean water. These are kitchen table issues, not abstractions or distractions like Critical Race Theory (CRT), banning books and clinging to fantasies of a stolen election in spite of a raft of evidence to the contrary.

The Republican Party has offered no platform — and no ideas to help ordinary citizens. Senator Rick Scott, R-FL, has even proposed raising taxes on lower- and middle-income families and retirees!

Democrats are not socialists, but many of our most cherished institutions are socialistic — Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security. Polls show that the vast majority of Americans support raising the minimum wage, paid leave for illness/maternity/paternity/caring for an ill family member — and taxing the ultra-wealthy.

Please wake up. This administration is working hard to make these things happen for you. Hundreds of bills with tangible benefits, and widespread public support, have already passed the House of Representatives — and are now blocked from even getting a vote by a hostile Senate!

The weight of accusations

Perhaps no charge evokes so visceral and negative reaction as pedophilia. Putin employed the tactic of charging his competitors and critics of pedophilia, planting child pornography in their computers, destroying their lives. There isn’t a better indicator for the potential for pedophilia than collections of child pornography.

QAnon is deploying the same tactic against Democrats, accusing them of belonging to a pedophilia ring, enlivening Trump’s followers to action.

Trump has used money accumulated from donations to indirectly start and support “The American Accountability Foundation” whose sole purpose seems to be to give senators something negative to say about every potential Biden appointee, again more lies. Accusing the newest Supreme Court member of being soft on pedophiles, lies, yet these senators get the response they wanted from Republicans, no decency.

Sandusky was charged with pedophilia and the news people had a field day. What was apparently horsing around became a open search by prosecutors for corroboration of pedophilia. Looking to troubled Second Mile kids, they were repeatedly questioned by therapists and others. “Repressed memories” began to appear among many, telling horrible stories. Though strangely one of the kids had invited Sandusky to his wedding. Repressed memory recovery has been thoroughly debunked scientifically. These kids came into considerable wealth, blindly paid out by Penn State. John Snedden, a government investigator was assigned to examine the charges, questioning everyone involved, and concluded Sandusky was innocent in a confidential paper much later released. Note: there was no child pornography found on Sandusky’s computer.

Sims will protect women’s rights

Democrats, if you are furious about the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, there’s something you can do to help protect the women of Pennsylvania. One of our candidates for Lt. Governor is a civil rights attorney specializing in women’s rights.

Remember, if Roe is overturned, it’s up to the individual states to protect the reproductive rights of women. So far, women in PA are safe, but the Republican legislature is getting ready to pass a ban here as well. With 10 years of experience as a State Representative, Brian knows how to fight back, and we need him now more than ever.

Please join me in voting for Brian Sims on May 17.
