Letters: Benner Township development unconscionable; Where is the outrage?
Benner Township development unconscionable
How with a clear conscience can the Benner Township folks allow a person to develop 15 acres of land near PSU’s Airport when it’s already know to be polluted with PFAS? It’s on the list of EPA’s places to be monitored for just how much is in the ground water.
Mother Nature has given that area a good number of its own type of filtration systems, sinkholes, that keep the groundwater clean. There has to be more importance put on keeping that system as it is and not allow pavement and buildings to be built over it.
Those who live in that area already have to buy special filters for their wells and once the EPA does its study there will be many more who will have to do the same. Let’s be careful with our ground water and not end up with too little like our West Coast.
Where is the outrage?
Where is the outrage? You have 1,400 people asking the PSU board of trustees to oppose a proposed casino which brings jobs, tax revenue and a new experience to the region and not one word about bringing alcohol sales to Beaver Stadium and Bryce Jordan Center? The State College Borough Council and police, and the College Township represantives seem to be not in favor of this proposal but the almighty dollar at PSU prevails. Where are all the casino naysayers that say that the casino will bring a host of unfounded problems, but not a word about the problems that we all know are already present with alcohol consumption? What is next? Hookah lounges in the tunnels? Pull out a joint lay back, and chill out between quarters and halftime? Too late for public comment. Have a seat and enjoy your 16 ounce beverage, PSU rolls on. Also I can’t believe the CDT would give a convicted child molesting enabler a front page story to let him tell his side of “the truth.” All I saw was a page from Sandusky’s playbook of, it wasn’t me, I did not do anything wrong, someone was after me, everything but an apology for letting Sandusky keep molesting children. No, “I’m sorry” and no manning up and taking responsibility for what he did. A bunch of blame shifting, poor me.
No need for booze at Beaver Stadium
I oppose the decision to sell beer in Beaver Stadium. Fans drink enough booze outside the stadium before and after the football games. Beaver Stadium will need a court room like Philadelphia’s Veterans Stadium had. I’m sure security personnel and State College police aren’t happy with the move.
Oz’s ads don’t depict true picture
I object to Oz’s negative ads about Fetterman.
A Masters Degree graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, he began his life of service in Americorps, teaching youth. When two of his students were murdered, John ran for mayor, and won. He cleaned up Braddock, once know as the “murder capital of Allegheny County.” His proudest accomplishment was a period of 5 years without a murder.
The dates of murders, while mayor, are tattooed on his arms.
After 13 years in Braddock, John ran and won the office of Lieutenant Governor of PA.
He formed the PA Marijuana Pardon Project to help people serving sentences for possession and small amounts for personal use.
PA and LA are the only states to mandate life without parole sentences for second-degree murder, and PA leads the nation with the highest life without parole population. Second-degree murder is charged when another has any involvement in a felony when a death occurs, not the killer. Two boys were convicted of second-degree murder after giving a ride to another who had just killed someone. The boys had no knowledge of the murder. Many have served decades. John believes in second chances.
Think! Would someone who cared enough about the town he led tattoo the dates of murders during his tenure, do as Oz suggests? John Fetterman did a wonderful job in Braddock, he has been a meaningful Lieutenant Governor, and he will make a great Senator for the people of Pennsylvania.
