Elect leaders who support sensible gun legislation

I’m 78, a Democrat, and a hunter. I own numerous firearms. Some are family mementos. All are capable of wounding and killing. I have a permit to conceal and carry a gun. I can recall no widespread, statutory attempt by any Democrat to take away any law-abiding citizen’s guns. That’s a distorted claim that’s typically espoused by those with political or financial motives.

The Democratic Party has always supported the Constitution, including the Second Amendment, and the Bill of Rights, including the right to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The issue concerning some military weapons, designed to kill as many as quickly and efficiently as possible, is a question that deserves honest, well-reasoned debate.

People are injured and killed by automobiles. What do we do about it? We regulate their responsible use.

There are now more than 400 million guns in this country. I’m tired of hearing that gun deaths and injuries have nothing to do with guns. We must protect our freedom, but that includes freedom from fear of unexpected injury and violent death, especially at the hands of first-time gun owners lacking experience and appropriate training.

We can balance the varied interests of firearm owners while making our streets, classrooms and public gatherings safer. How? By electing leaders who will enact sensible gun legislation aimed at protecting all of our freedoms.

In the words of the late Congressman John Lewis, “The vote is the most powerful non-violent change agent you have in a Democratic society.”

Dan Reeder, Lock Haven

‘Leave the tutu. Take the wand.’

His evil fairy godmother bequeathed him her magic wand.

Ding.

No more baby teeth under the pillow.

All innocence if ever, now forever lost.

To the lying traitor to his country.

“It’s mine.”

Ding.

In a solemn moment at Normandy

He asked:

“What was ‘in it’ for them?”

9,386 Brave American souls buried.

Fighting Hitler’s fascists to save lives.

Preserving democracy.

Do you really believe he cares about you?

He waves his magic wand.

Poof.

New lies become his truth.

The documents are his.

He magically declassified them.

Ding.

Agents in the field, protecting us.

Sold to the highest bidder?

The caprice of the orange monster.

Fake Russian elections in Ukraine.

Fake electors at home.

Ding.

The Putin playbook, again.

“I alone can fix it.”

The song of every dictator.

Misogynists, rapists and killers in Russia, in Ukraine, in Iran, in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

In America?

He can make it so.

His Courts.

Now stacked with his supplicants

Ding.

In Pennsylvania?

An amalgam of miscreants and would-be dictators

At his command.

The candidate from New Jersey, with ten homes.

Just like you.

And …

A man who led a busload to the January 6th insurrection.

Promises to purge all of the voter rolls in PA.

To subjugate all women to the prurient gaze of his GOP legislature.

No exceptions for rape or incest.

And birth control?

He will “choose.”

On November 8, 2022:

Vote. Them. All. Out.

Every. Single. One.

No bigger champion for survivors

When college freshmen attend orientation there is a segment on what constitutes date rape. That is because our State Representative Scott Conklin made sure it was required. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and there is no bigger champion for survivors in the legislature than Scott Conklin. We need his continued leadership on this vital issue. Scott stands up for those who have no voice. On Nov. 8, please join me and vote for him.
