Vote for the party that takes action

Americans want something to vote for. After years of the Republican’s “party of no,” we have a chance to vote for the party that has passed laws for the good of the country.

In the last two years, Democrats have voted for:

  • American Rescue Plan to combat COVID-19
  • Infrastructure Law to repair bridges, roads, ports, airports and broadband access
  • The CHIPS and Science Act to help bring manufacturing jobs back to America
  • Action on climate change
  • Child tax credit
  • Health care for veterans
  • Lower gas prices
  • Inflation Reduction Act reduced the deficit
  • Safer communities, including firearm background checks for people under 21
  • Funding to address youth mental health
  • Lowered health care costs including spending caps on insulin for seniors
  • Reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act

Unfortunately, the Republicans and the Supreme Court are changing laws to take away our rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution including the right to vote, whom to marry, and whether to have children. They are limiting and banning Women’s Health Care, including the right to a safe abortion.

Beware ... women who don’t have the right to decide when and if they want to reproduce are not women — they are livestock.

Once more for the people in the back — gas prices and inflation change, but once our rights are gone, we won’t get them back.

Vote for democracy — our lives, our rights, and our futures are on the ballot.

Campaign sign treatment is revealing

Fascism, the idea of forcible suppression of opposition. Politically, it’s the ideology of tyrants or any following them. Duped by this evil way of thinking and to stifle free expression, fascists can justify any illicit behavior.

It seems fascism didn’t die with Mussolini, It’s here. One way in particular I’ve seen is the illegal practice of removing an opponent’s political signs. Several conservative candidates from Mastriano on down have had their signs removed by so-called inclusive folks in our area engaging in this crime. Yes, it’s a federal offense to remove or tamper with a political sign. The local police have been tipped off to places this is happening, so you fascists have been duly warned.

If you feel the need to remove a sign because you don’t agree with a candidate it’s a sign you have a very weak moral compass and poor understanding and appreciation of freedom. So visit a country where fascism is the norm and see how this line of thinking affects your every day life. I’ve also spoken to several residents who are fearful of putting out conservative signs lest their neighbors shun them or they have their signs stolen, especially in the borough! Doesn’t State College pride itself on being diverse and accepting of all? Fascism and hypocrisy are kissing cousins.

Finally, let me suggest if this is the kind of behavior against conservative candidates maybe we should vote for conservatives and squelch this abhorrent mentality in our area!

A powerful reminder

Ann Shepherd’s powerful reminder in the Oct. 13 CDT is a welcome comparison of the same message (“my body, my choice”) and how it can be fittingly applied in two very different contexts.

What’s the real crime?

Doug Mastriano and the Republican Party want to make crime a central campaign issue, but what solutions do they propose?

As far as I can tell from Mastriano’s role in the events on January 6th, and his public comments since then, he doesn’t actually care about law enforcement.

Furthermore, he wants to charge doctors with murder for providing care to pregnant women — women whose lives are in danger or who are victims of the crimes of rape and incest. He even proposes sending those women to jail.

By the time he’s through, there won’t be room in our jails for the real criminals.
