Letters: Equal justice in the US?; EATS Act could have disastrous consequences
Equal justice in the US?
The Justice Department has two levels of justice — one for Democrats and one for Republicans. Here are the facts.
Hillary Clinton had a nonsecure server in her home that received classified emails above top secret. She destroyed 33,000 emails that were subpoenaed by the FBI. The past director of the FBI, James Comey, outlined several Clinton felonies in a televised address, but then stated no reasonable prosecutor would bring charges. No indictments.
Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee paid for the false dossier that led to a four-year Russian collusion witch hunt against President Trump. No indictments.
The FBI filed falsified court documents during the Russian collusion investigation to spy on Trump associates. No indictments.
The FBI possessed the now famous Hunter Biden laptop since 2019. The FBI and 51 past intelligence officials claimed the laptop was Russian disinformation before a presidential election although they knew it was authentic. No indictments.
President Biden illegally removed classified documents as senator and vice president. A special counsel is investigating, but amazingly there has been no statement in seven months from the special counsel.
A special counsel has been appointed to investigate possible felonies committed by Hunter Biden, which could also implicate the Biden family. The special counsel is the same prosecutor who allowed Hunter Biden to plead guilty in a deal to escape tax and gun charges. The deal was tossed by an alert judge. Will the latest investigation be another cover up?
Equal justice is being destroyed in this country.
EATS Act could have disastrous consequences
A questionable bill was recently introduced in the U.S. Congress, known as the “Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression” (or “EATS”) Act (HR.4417/ S.2019). The stated objective of this federally proposed EATS Act is “to prevent States and local jurisdictions from interfering with the production and distribution of agricultural products in interstate commerce.”
However, the EATS Act could have disastrous consequences. The EATS Act potentially nullifies multiple PA state and local laws protecting animals, consumers and farmers. One example is PA Code Title 7 §3.133 which “Regulates the importation of garbage-fed swine so as to protect animal health, prevent zoonotic disease transmission, and protect food safety.” I’m concerned about the EATS Act use of the term “agricultural products,” which is so broad that dogs could potentially fall under that category. This means the EATS Act could prevent Pennsylvania citizens and state legislators from enacting laws to prevent importation of dogs from out-of-state puppy mills.
I want Pennsylvania elected officials to maintain the legal ability to designate and prohibit emergent toxins and unsafe agricultural practices potentially permitted within others states or not currently tracked by federal provisions in order to safeguard human and animal health. The federally proposed EATS Act appears to ask our representatives to willingly forfeit this Pennsylvania’s discretion. I ask the Centre Daily Times to report on the impact of this bill and for PA residents who share similar concerns to contact their Members of Congress.
