Letters: Where’s the logic?; Time for Republicans to rally around Trump
Where’s the logic?
People say, “I can’t vote for Biden; his son has been indicted.” So instead they plan to vote for the other guy who has, himself, been indicted four times. Where’s the logic in that?
People say, “Joe Biden is a truthful and decent man, but he’s too old to be our president.” So instead they plan to vote for the other guy, who is neither truthful nor decent, and is only three years younger than Biden. Where’s the logic in that?
A recent poll asked respondents if they approved or disapproved of the Biden Administration’s handling of the employment/unemployment situation today. Fifty-five percent said “disapprove.” Where’s the logic?
New job creation is at an all-time high, and unemployment is the lowest it’s been in the last 50 years. If something is the best it’s ever been, how can anyone disapprove of that? Where’s the logic?
The Biden Administration is doing careful planning for eventually shifting to renewable energy sources, while simultaneously producing more oil than any other country. Critics deride the former, while ignoring the latter. Where’s the logic, not to mention fairness, in that?
A voter remarked, regarding the upcoming Kennedy/Nixon election in 1960, “I’m voting for Kennedy. He has such a pretty wife.” Although this voting decision was irrational, it did not contribute to electing a really bad candidate. Sadly, some of the illogical reasons for voting for the Republican candidate this year very surely would.
Time for Republicans to rally around Trump
Former President Donald J. Trump will be the Republican nominee for president. It’s now time for Republicans to unite in support of his reelection.
Unfortunately, Trump haters are running scared and will pull out all the stops to defeat him.
Trump supporters will be unmercifully attacked by Biden, the left-wing media, and some of our neighbors. We’ll be labeled enemies of democracy, racists, cultists, and even worse.
Trump haters will continue to use lawfare to neutralize Trump. The hope is that a conviction in court by leftist judges will stop the Trump train.
Although these tactics will ultimately fail, we can’t just ignore the onslaught. If we want a secure border, equal opportunity, a fair and impartial justice system, lower inflation and mortgage costs, energy dominance, and a chance to prevent WWIII, Trump supporters must go on the offensive.
Register to vote. Contribute time and/or money to America First Republican candidates. Write editorial letters. Talk to your neighbors and use social media to spread the message. Even little things, like yard signs, will help. Then, when it comes time to vote, cast your vote for Trump.
Finally, an article in the CDT confirmed that we’ll be using a problematic voter registration system (SURE) for the November 2024 election. The Auditor General warned of SURE problems in December 2019. But two Democrat administrations have failed to deliver a promised new system. This is unacceptable. Pressure your legislators to act.
Political theater with immigration bill
Republicans continue to prove that they simply have no interest in governing and solving problems for the American people. However, they do put a great deal of effort into political theater and sustaining problems that can be misrepresented and weaponized by Trump, MAGA Republicans and conservative media.
The bipartisan immigration bill recently shot down by congressional and senate Republicans is just one glaring example. Largely crafted by Sen. James Lankford, R-OK, who was hand-picked for his tough stance on immigration, that bill was strongly endorsed by the very conservative National Border Patrol Council.
It gave Republicans virtually everything they ever wanted including: 1,500 additional border patrol agents; increased detention facility for 50,000 illegal border crossers; add additional judges and immigration officials to root out dubious asylum claims and reduce processing time to 90 days. The current years-long asylum process is a huge driver of illegal immigration.
This bill also included emergency authorization for shutting down the border to immigrants arriving in large numbers, going well beyond the Title 42 authority utilized by Trump and Biden, effectively ending migrant caravans.
Sadly, as always, Trump was interested only in Trump. Solving our border problem would have denied this twice impeached, four time indicted, narcissistic presidential candidate of a much needed campaign issue.
Apparently, it just took a phone call from Trump to MAGA House Speaker Mike Johnson to kill this extraordinary bipartisan effort to address a very serious national crisis.
If this is Trump’s idea of putting “America First” who needs it?
Trump’s origins suggest a different loyalty
We should not be surprised that Donald Trump supports a Russian invasion of our European allies. After all, Trump is only a second-generation American whose origins are in bellicose Germany. (The last of my German ancestors left in 1852.) Maybe Trump is a Hessian, a sleeper agent for Russia. Whatever Trump is, he is certainly un-American and unqualified to lead our great nation.
