No hunting on Sundays

I urge people to contact their state representatives and senators and suggest that they oppose a recent bill introduced by Rep. Frank Farina, D-Lackawanna, that would allow deer and turkey hunting on Sunday.

The 95 percent of the citizens of Pennsylvania who don’t use their spare time to kill animals for personal amusement or food want at least one day a week on which it is safe and quiet to enjoy a hike in the woods.

Farmers also support one day in which they don’t have to worry about trespassing hunters and their animals are not disturbed by constant gunfire.

When gauging the money that might be made by allowing Sunday hunting, a fair analysis should also consider the loss of revenue that would occur by discouraging hikers, nature photographers, mushroom collectors and others from using the woods for purposes that do not involve pain, suffering and death.
