Make rules based on common sense

In a recent letter to the CDT, a writer asked why people are against guns but not cars, when both can kill people.

Isn’t it because we have to register our cars and reach a certain age before we drive them and take a test to make sure we are competent before being given a license to drive?

These are common sense rules to make us safer. Wouldn’t it also be common sense to do the same for guns?
