Although Memorial Field may be iconic, it is time to let it go.
As the State College Area School District continues to move out of downtown, why do we continue to spend money on a stadium that will always be a financial drain?
After spending $3 million on the stadium, another sinkhole opened up that had to be stabilized.
Now instead of selling bricks to help subsidize the high school renovations, the school district is selling bricks to maintain a sports field that is not near the high school, has limited parking in decks that will soon be used up by a new downtown building, and at any time could have fans fall into a sinkhole.

The stadium may have sentimental value to some residents but it’s time to let it go. Quit spending taxpayers’ money foolishly. The cost of maintaining this stadium is not what would be reasonable to a prudent person.
It’s time to quit throwing money into a hole in the ground.
