Bellefonte story disappointing

I read the story (CDT, Wednesday) about the failure of the Bellefonte school board to renew the superintendent’s contract with interest, and some disappointment.

The reporter, and/or the editors, failed to make sure that some very pertinent information was included, and the story as it ran is a disservice to your readers.

There is an allusion to some dissatisfaction with the superintendent, but then you were content merely to say those people refused to go on the record. So? Did you just shrug your shoulders?

The reporting should have made sure to find out what the board members who voted thought. They are public officials, and don’t have the luxury of keeping their actions and reasons secret, and the CDT should have gotten a comment from each one. That’s a pretty basic journalistic rule.

At the very least, you should have indicated that the reporter called each one, and then what the board members said. “Declined to comment.” “Hid in the bathroom.” Something. This report is incomplete and very disappointing. I hope you correct this mistake and tell us the rest of the story. Soon.

Doug Stanfield, Bellefonte
