Pa. legislator putting profits first

Something just isn’t right when a state senator who owns a funeral home in Bucks County near Philadelphia is pushing a bill that would up his profits. Yet, Sen. Tommy Tomlinson, a funeral home owner, is guiding a bill that would pay out big to funeral homes like his.

Senate Bill 874 would prevent cemeteries from pre-selling to families, creating a monopoly for funeral homes. It doesn’t take an economist to see that this will raise prices for families. Many people already have trouble paying for burial costs in an open market. It’s scary to think of what will happen if this legislation passes. Tomlinson is basically trying to pass a tax increase for burial costs to benefit his company’s bottom line. Grieving families deserve better.

The General Assembly needs to stand up to Tomlinson and tell him to put Pennsylvania families before his own profits. Senate Bill 874 cannot become a law.
