Support for sit-in

Thank God for Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., who possesses the courage to do what no Republican in Congress was willing to initiate.

Shame on House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and all 247 congressional Republican members who left the House of Representatives to party on the Fourth of July, while we are all left unprotected from people who should never be allowed to buy guns.

As I write this, we are almost 20 hours into the Democrats’ sit-in within the House and they are the courageous people who are demanding that we get a vote on the all-too-meager gun control legislation that is before Congress. A vote that will show us who is accountable the next time a deranged gunman focuses an arsenal on fellow Americans.

What we truly need is another assault weapons ban and we need a background check on everyone who wishes to buy a gun. We need these now. It is only fair.

This is about protecting our families the best way possible. Support our legislators who are asking for their right to vote.

Nancy F. Parks, Aaronsburg
